Doctors for Life International (DFL) is disappointed at the way their concerns were misrepresented in the National Council of Provinces when the Traditional Health Practitioners and the Abortion Amendment Bills adopted. During the proceedings ANC MP Faith Mazibuko stated that DFL’s concerns “smacked of discrimination” and were “insulting and disrespectful” to other cultures. | February 15, 2006Doctors for Life understand that the Director of the Rose Clinic Durban and his staff will appear again in the Durban Magistrates Court at 0900 hours on WEDNESDAY 15 FEBRUARY when thousands more charges of illegal abortions, fraud and misuse of drugs will be added to the charges already laid against the four accused. It is expected that there will also be hundreds of charges of conspiracy and at least one charge of culpable homicide.

Today the Constitutional Court ruled that current legislation and common-law unfairly discriminates against same sex couples, referring the matter to Parliament for appropriate remedy. As a medical - scientific organisation, Doctors For Life International (DFL) has ample medical, sociological and psychological evidence demonstrating the detrimental effects of same sex relationships on individuals and society. DFL therefore implores Parliament to allow empirical science to lead it in this decision for the benefit of all South Africans.

DFL has been assisting and advising Sister Charles from the beginning when she contacted us about her predicament of being expected to take part in abortions.
