On the 25 th of July 2004, a team of six from Doctors for Life’s head office attended a community resolution meeting at Malelane in Mpumalanga province. Dr. Albu van Eeden, the chief executive director of Doctors for Life, was part of the team. The purpose of the community resolution meeting was to sign a final agreement to release a communally owned land to Doctors for Life, which will be used for the establishment of a Care Centre for children in need/distress. According to the law, this agreement had to be signed in the presence of the Traditional Authority and the community members. During this time, anybody can object to the proposal. Dr. Albu van Eeden introduced Doctors for Life and expounded more on the Life Child project. In his speech, he mentioned clearly the activities of the Life Child project and how the community can benefit from it. As a result, there was no objection from the Traditional Authority or the community against our proposal. The community reflected a very high interest and welcomed us with open arms. As a token of appreciation, Doctors for Life made a braai for everybody that attended the meeting. Doctors for Life International represents more than 1000 medical doctors and specialists, three-quarters of who practice in South Africa.
