These are stories of 5 of the 20 children currently
supported in Harding by Doctors For Life
Sanele:
He is a 5 yr. old boy who comes to Khonzinkosi Creche with his older sister
Zonke. He is a very clever/smart boy. He has such potential to be a leader
to acheive great things. He takes charge of the kids in the creche when
the teachers can't be in the classroom to lead them at certain times.
There has been times he's gathered them all up and started them off with
their morning prayers and songs. All the kids follow his lead too. He
is one of our top students in the creche, intelligence wise. He loves
to learn and also good at art. He has lost both of his parents due to
AIDS and is taken care of by his step grandparents.
He
is well taken care of seeing his circumstances at home. He and his
sister live at home with 10 other brothers and sisters, some of
whom are half and step siblings. I would like to state that I think
it quite honorable of their grandparents in their old age to be
taking care of 12 young children who are all orphaned. Sanele as
I've already stated is a bright young chap and it will only be through
the Lord's grace that he will grow up to use his God given gifts
for the Lord's glory and not his own.
Zonke:
She
is young 7 yr. old girl. She should already be in school, but because
of her being a little slow she is still in preschool. If we had
the resources to get her tested it would be nice to see what's holding
her back in learning. She's not dumb in the least. She's very helpful
when it comes to work at the crËche. She loves to help clean up
and do dishes. She esp. loves to be Miss Bossy. She is a lanky girl
who is bone skinny. She was thought by all of us to maybe be HIV
positive, because of her sickly constitution, but she was tested
and she is negative. She is happy young girl who loves to sing and
play with the other kids. You can always hear her singing the loudest
out of all the kids. She is a dear sweet child who just needs a
little extra attention with her education. She is the sister of
the young boy Sanele who is our top student at the crËche. I believe
for the most part Zonke is happy and content with her situation
in life and if we let her she'd be happy to stay at crËche forever.
Fiksiwe:
She is cute little chubby girl who is 4 and looks like she is 2.
She comes from a home where she lives with her mother and older
sister. Her father has died of AIDS and there are suspicions of
her mother being sick as well. She isn't very well taken care of
at home. That's when I'm so thankful that she can come to Khonzinkosi
CrËche and benefit from the blessings Doctors For Life have to offer
for her health and spiritual well being. She is an aunery, yet very
bright little girl. She is quite smart, but likes to play much more
than learning.
There is much potential for her to grow up and be a productive
member of society with a little extra discipline and teaching. She loves
to help with cleaning up and little errands we may ask her to do. Her
favorite thing to say it "Bega Miss!" which, translated from Zulu, means
"look Miss" She can literally say it 20 times in a row. She is always
seeking for approval and acceptance. She is a beautiful little girl who
I've grown especially fond of despite her auneriness.
Nomfezeko:
She
is a recent member of the Khonzinkosi Creche. She actually is not
an orphan yet. We are taking her at the crËche though, because her
mother is in the last stage of AIDS and is ready to die any day.
Her father is well as far as we know, but no telling esp. with the
mother as sick as she is. She is a sweet little girl who is 3 and
will be 4 in May. She was just tested for HIV is past week and she
is HIV+. She shows signs of being in the first stage of the HIV
virus. As for her being a new student we don't know too much of
her personality and performance levels yet. She seems to be very
attached to her mother and it only breaks my heart to know that
her mother will soon be gone.
There are still days that she just cries and cries, because
she wants to see her mother. It's just one more reason why we need to
plant the Word of Jesus Christ in their hearts through daily examples
of Christ's love for them.
Lwazi:
This little young chap is 4 years old. He is a sweet and very sensitive
little boy. He has lost both his mother and father and is being
cared for by his grandma. The sad thing about his grandma is that
she has to also care for her husband who is paralyzed from the neck
down. Lwazi is a very special boy to me. He has shown to be very
stubborn, but I've come to see it's because he's very reserved and
very shy. He doesn't do much because he's embarrassed to do it.
He's very sensitive in that it doesn't take much to cause him to
cry. That too comes with the grief and trauma they go through in
losing their parents at such young ages. It's their only way of
expressing themselves. He is a precious little guy who through much
love, has blossomed and changed much while at the Khonzinkosi creche.
When he started attending the creche he was covered is scabies so
badly that you couldn't touch him anywhere that there wasn't a sore.
Now he is a happy and very healthy, little boy.
