Proposed Human Trafficking Bill Welcomed

Doctors For Life International would like to congratulate the Sexual Offences Unit of the National Prosecuting Authority for the Draft Bill submitted to Parliament recently regarding Human Trafficking. The new legislation will enable the effective prosecution of all forms of human trafficking. The proposed Bill echoes evidence that was submitted by Doctors For Life as early as 2000 and although a bit overdue, it is nevertheless most welcome....[more]

DON’T CREATE A LEGAL AVENUE FOR HUMAN TRAFFICKING IN 2010
Doctors for Life International would suggest that the ANC take disciplinary action against George Lekgetho on grounds of blatant gender discrimination – i.e. telling our young women and men that selling yourself for sex is acceptable as long as you pay tax. DFL is appalled at the ANC’s Lekgetho’s call to legalize prostitution for the 2010 Soccer World Cup...[more]

Donated Container on its way to Zavora
Following the death of Danie du Preez, project leader of the construction of Aid to Africa's first clinic in Mozambique (Zavora), we are encouraged by the tremendous support we continue to receive. Developments include the donation of a 20ft container, filled with building materials and tools, that is on its way to Zavora. A construction team from the Netherlands will cast the first foundations in March this year. A special thanks to all the donors and those involved in putting this all together...[more]

HEALTH MINISTER’S PROMOTION OF UNSAFE MEDICINE DISCONCERTING

Doctors For Life International (DFL) is encouraged by the move towards submitting Traditional African Medicine (TAM) to scientific testing and clinical trials. At the same time we find Health Minister Manto Tshabalala Msimang’s comments inappropriate and counterproductive. During an address to the Presidential Task Team on African Traditional Medicine Minister Msimang state that “we cannot use western models of protocols for research and development... ..[more]

FREEDOM OF CONSCIENCE FOR HEALTH PROFESSIONALS
ONCE AGAIN DENIED AT COMING THURSDAY’S EMERGENCY RE-VOTE
ON THE ABORTION AMENDMENT BILL

Despite strong objections and numerous appeals from opposition parties the South African Government refuses to follow international trends regarding a conscience clause for health professionals in respect of abortion. Most democracies have legislation to protect doctors and nurses who have conscientious objection to abortion. Recently Dr Henry Morgentaler, a pro-abortionist, known as Canada’s father of abortion stated that, “doctors should not be obliged to do things (referring to abortion) which they don't approve of themselves.” ...[more]
