Since the legalisation of abortion in SA in
1997, over 200 thousand induced abortions have been committed
Every year the abortion statistics rise, 2001
saw over 50 thousand induced abortions - that means over 4 000 a month;
over 1 000 a week; around 148 a day! Dont you wish you could speak
to these mothers just before it is too late?
An abortionist divulged the following to us in 2001:
no pre or post abortion counselling is offered;
the cost of an induced abortion ranges from R750-00 -R1000-00;
no anaesthetic is given, just something for pain; and that
the pre and post abortion experience is very traumatising.
You Can Make a Difference
Doctors For Life started 11th Hour Counselling which involves the
training of volunteers to help mothers in front of abortion clinics to make an
informed decision, after hearing about the physical and psychological consequences
of having an abortion. (The 24 Hr Abortion Info Careline: 073 22 49 221 is also
offered them for follow up.)
The volunteers work in small groups placing themselves a little distance from
the entrance to an abortion clinic such as Marie Stopes and offer counselling
to pregnant mothers just as they are about to walk through the doors of the clinic
(hence the name, 11th Hour Counselling). They also try to stay until
the clinic closes in order to reach out to those who come out. In the States this
kind of work is called "Sidewalk Counselling". People like Prof. Pat
McEwen in America and Linda Gibbons in Canada have attained tremendous success
in this field as a result of their, and others, persevering and courageous efforts.
So, if you want abortion to stop, if you have a passion for the sanctity of life
and desire to "speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves .
. . Well, here is your chance! Both men and women volunteers are welcome. To attend
an 11th Hour Counselling Course or for more information, contact Salomé at Doctors

11th Hour Training Course
The Course equips volunteers with knowledge about e.g.: the medical and psychological
effects of abortion on the mother, post abortion syndrome, guidelines in counselling,
some of the methods of abortion, a basic understanding of foetal development,
legal aspects and more. During the Course, two aspects are encouraged in the offering
of counselling:
to work in two's outside abortion clinics and reach out to
the pregnant mothers just as they are about to walk through the doors of the
clinic, and
to start a 24hr Counselling Helpline. (Doctors For Lifes
24 Hr Abortion Info Careline: 073 22 49 221 can be given to anybody who needs
assistance regarding abortion and its consequences.)
