It is our prayer that this booklet will be of help to persons
with AIDS and AIDS home carers in South Africa (and wherever it will be used).
For years we have devoted time and effort to preventative strategies through which
we tried to prevent the spread of the AIDS epidemic
Even though we have not stopped educating and warning the public about AIDS and
dangerous life styles the epidemic is unfortunately running its course. The prevalence
of full blown AIDS is increasing across our country. In many areas, the hospitals
and other health services are unable to cope with the work load.
We have therefore decided to get involved in AIDS home care to try our best to
alleviate the suffering of people with AIDS. We have tried to keep the contents
as simple as possible in order to make it easily understandable to uneducated
people in rural areas, since a large portion of people suffering from AIDS come
from these areas.

The skills taught in the booklet have been worked out so as to be effective and
practical in areas where there is little or no health care and medical backup.
The intention is that, as new information is gathered, the booklet will be updated
from time to time. We would like to thank the World Health Organisation for published
material on this topic, from which we drew valuable information.
